Privacy Policy

Your documents stay on your Mac. We never upload, read or store them.
You don’t need an account to use One Clear Reader.
We don’t sell data, show ads or track what you read.
If you buy Pro, Stripe handles your payment. We keep only what we need to run your licence.

1. Who we are

One Clear Reader is a reader and editor for Mac, made by Northlight Group Pty Ltd, Suite 12, Level 4, 148-160 Albert Rd, South Melbourne VIC 3205, Australia ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app and oneclearreader.com handle, and why.

2. Your documents

One Clear Reader opens, displays and edits files on your Mac. The contents, names and locations of your files are processed on your Mac only. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.

Search and the Latest from your AI list use your Mac’s own Spotlight index and file dates. Recent files, reading settings, themes, review notes, earlier versions of files you edit and backups of Word files you edit are all stored on your Mac. Deleting them, or the app’s folders in your Library, removes them.

If you choose Save as file in Review, your notes are written to a file where you choose. What happens to that file after that is up to you.

3. What we collect

We collect as little as we can:

If you email us: your email address and your message, so we can reply.
If you buy Pro: your email address, your licence key, your plan, and the payment references Stripe gives us. We use them to send your key, check it, and help you restore it.
When you turn on a licence: a random ID for that Mac, so your licence can be used on up to 3 Macs and you can move it later. We don’t collect your Mac’s name. The app checks your licence with our server from time to time. That check sends your key and this ID, nothing else.
Update checks: once a day the app downloads a small file from oneclearreader.com to see if a new version is out. It sends nothing about you or your files. Like any web request, it reaches our host with your IP address. You can turn it off in the app.
Website visits: our host, Cloudflare, processes basic request details such as your IP address to deliver and protect the site. We don’t use analytics or advertising cookies.

4. What we don’t collect

The contents, names or locations of your files.
What you read, search for or edit in the app.
Advertising IDs or tracking across other sites and apps.

5. Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run the business. They only get what they need for their job:

Stripe, to take payments. Stripe handles your card details under its own privacy policy. We never see your full card number.
Cloudflare, to host this website and our licence server.
An email delivery provider, to send your licence key.

Some of these providers store information outside Australia, including in the United States. We don’t sell or rent personal information to anyone.

6. How long we keep it

We keep licence records for as long as your licence is active and for up to 5 years after, for tax records. We keep emails as long as we need them to help you. You can ask us to delete your information at any time. We’ll do so unless the law requires us to keep it.

7. Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing hello@oneclearreader.com. We’ll reply within 30 days. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. If you’re unhappy with how we handled a request, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

8. Changes to this policy

If we change how One Clear Reader handles information, we’ll update this page and the date above. For important changes, we’ll tell you in the app before they apply.
